On-Going Volunteer Opportunities
The NES PTA has multiple volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. The PTA includes several “Standing Committees” that conduct all of the “work” of the PTA. Each committee has a designated Chairperson that oversees the “work”. Each committee needs multiple volunteers to help things run smoothly. Below is a detailed list of each committee and its responsibilities.

- Community Events/Programs - The community events and programs committee plans free family events for our school community. Events in the past have included Movie Night, a Stocking Hop and Family Fitness Night. In addition to determining what events the PTA will sponsor, the committee members work with outside vendors and partners as needed; coordinates use of the building and facilities with school staff; publicizes and promotes the event; coordinates event volunteers and manages the event itself, including set-up and clean-up. Time commitment: event planning coordinator –15 hours per event; event planning committee volunteers - 4 hours; on-site event volunteer
- Communications - The communications committee is responsible for maintaining and updating the PTA website, sending the weekly Nantucket News e-mail, updating our FaceBook page, managing the PTA newsletter (two times per year) and producing flyers for events and meetings. Time commitment: 1 hour per month
- Fundraising - The fundraising committee is responsible selecting and running the programs or sales that fund PTA programs. In addition to the direct appeal that is underway, the PTA also sponsors restaurant night fundraisers (Ledo Pizza Night), sells spirit wear and sponsors sales-based fundraisers. Past sales fundraisers have included reusable bags, bulbs, plants and coupon books. Committee volunteers work with outside vendors and suppliers; produce fundraiser order forms and information; collect forms and payments and coordinate delivery of all items. Time commitment: 3-4 hours per fundraiser
- Hospitality - The hospitality committee has the very enjoyable task of showing appreciation and support for our wonderful faculty and staff. The committee provides meals and small gifts throughout the year. Volunteers are needed to donate and/or shop for food and set-up and clean up from events. Time commitment: ½ to 1 hour per event
- Membership - The membership committee runs our annual membership drive and produces the school directory. Volunteers will assist in data entry, proofreading and distribution of membership cards and directory. Time commitment: 2-3 hours
- Yearbook - The yearbook committee designs and creates the school’s yearbook working in conjunction with an outside vendor. The committee assists by volunteering on school picture day; taking and submitting pictures throughout the year; using vendor provided software to create yearbook pages; assisting with order form distribution; payment processing and yearbook delivery. Time commitment: TBD as needed

WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) - WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers and father figures in order to provide positive male role models for the students and to enhance school security.
Who are Watch D.O.G.S.? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day each year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or other administrator.
